Soul Brew Show 9
9 Weeks in, so it’s show number 9. Simple logic there. Not really planned this one…I had a pile of stuff and not much time to figure how they’d fit so it’s pretty much off the bat. That Lee Brackett has gone to the top of my ‘this week’s favourite’ chart and thanks to the guy who supplied it and got it here in time for inclusion. Both sides are the nuts, and both sides are here. The Joe Tex comes a close second too and glad to get the one I bought two weeks ago finally arrive at the right address - softens the welching of earlier… Finally, imo the best new funk production to emerge for a long time included in the shape of Baby Charles’ “Coming From A Higher Place” - certainly did! Wrighty pushed me (back
) in their direction and gladly the best track had just been put out by Record Kicks. (I kind of hear the Big Joe Louis 45 - from a fortnight ago - as a blues/R&B crossover and not really a funk record per se, just incase there’s any debate) Anyway, you can check them all out on myspace…

Like the first show this one is made up entirely of stuff from my sales box which would explain the numbers after the labels. They mean UK £ btw. Crass commercialism or killing two birds with one stone? Depends on your outlook I guess. But anyway, they’re there and they’re up for grabs so if you want anything email me direct thecauldron@witchsbrew.co.uk - I’ll describe conditions too. Besides that, lots of classics to enjoy - quite good to just put stuff together without the spectre of the collector ticking boxes or chin rubbing, and to play records that may have been neglected for a while.

Show 7 now up and running. Lookout for the brilliant Big Joe Louis track halfway through - you can buy it online from http://www.timmion.com/ or from Dusty Groove or your local record store. Another mixed bag this time around - light on the 70’s disco muck with some cheapies chucked in for good measure. I would have recommended going to Craig Moerer for a copy of the Leroy Clofer (if you needed one) but it appears someone grabbed about 18 or 19 of the 20 that he had in stock in one handful cos it went out of stock pretty damn fast! They were $90 so I’m guessing you may have to pay more next time you see it…(?) Nice tune though. Enough waffle, there’s plenty of that in the mix…
